Gymnastics, Measuring and Reminders

Projects due in this week
Marvelous Projects are starting to flood in, this week I've given you a week off on homework to add those finishing touches to your project. If you've already handed it in, well done you, go have a refreshing glass for cordial and kick up your feet.

Jumble Sale

Mrs Page has asked the whole school to raise money for charity. The children had a think then shared their ideas. The idea they chose to go for was a jumble sale because "I have tons of old toys lying around the house I never play with anymore" and "mum is always throwing out my old toys" and "Other children would have more fun with my old toys".
So remind them of this when they're kicking and screaming about giving away their toy that hasn't seen the light of day for over a year.

The Jumble sale will take place on Thursday 11th May. Hopefully by then it will be lovely and sunny so we can host it outside in the play ground.

I was advised to give you a good amount of warning of this, So instead of taking forgotten toys to the charity shop would you mind holding onto to them for now. I'll have them in on Monday 8th May.
Could I also ask for some parents to help with manning the stall please? Or if one of my extremely helpful parents would like to take control of the event and delegate roles.Let me know, you're normally very good at this stuff.

International food week

Firstly I was so impressed with how geared up we were for international food day. Everyone took part, trying new food, noses stuck in and remembering our pleases and thank yous.

Some of the most popular dishes of the day for year 1 was Mehde's Moroccan Rice also known as cous cous.

We loved Ella's Polish sausage, demolished the whole plate and allowed Ella's adult to go home earlier.

Dimitri's mum's Greek stall was a slow burner, but once they found out she had pitta and cucumber... whoa look out.

When we realised we were the last group in the hall and could clean up.

Portuguese custard tarts. After some persuasion (Miss Morris ate 3 to 'prove they were tasty'
"Oh I quite like these, they're nice."

My favourite moment of the morning, Eaton mess in a fairy cake case.
"Miss Morris they're no spoons."
"Just nibble at it off the case."

Maths

Over the last few weeks, we have been recapping what we know about measurement and taking it to the next level using standard metric measurements.
We now know we measure length in cm, weight/mass in grams and capacity in ml.

We investigated if all potatoes weigh the same. Just like we found out that all carrots aren't the same length, potatoes weigh different amounts too.

Using balance scales and counting in 5g, 10g and 20g.

Today we found out that bottles have different capacities too!

Good job getting in at eye level there to read what the measuring jug says.

Would you look at that team work.

We had a little talk before the lesson about pouring sensibly and holding the equipment whilst our partners poured. I was quite impressed we only had 1 major spill, so well done year 1. Did catch the secret clean up mission. :O

English
Nothing really to report so far in our non-fiction topic, we're still half way through our non-fiction fact sheets, complete with a title, contents page, pictures, diagrams, facts, information, captions and labels, then finished off with a glossary and index. Well that's the plan. This week we're typing up all the information we found out last week about our favourite thing.
Zacarrie is writing about Minecraft, Elizabeth is writing about Fossils, Toby is writing about wrestling, Sophie is writing about unicorns, Molly is writing about Huskies, James is writing about tigers and Bella is writing about My Little Pony.

I'm very excited to see how these turn out. I'll be sure to publish some of the best work on here.

PE - Gymnastics
WE GOT TO PLAY ON THE APPARATUS!!!!!!
Is probably the response you got today when you asked, how was school? What did you do today?

We were looking at the different ways we can travel along apparatus and how we can safely get off it. Then we added in a little bit of flair.

The moved on to doing jumps that appear on the GYMNASTIC AWARDS
Then a nice little routine developing here. Throwing in a balance for good measure

Music
We had a spontaneous reaction from music on Wednesday. I showed the children a band called walk off the earth, who do covers of pop songs on youtube.
The children got so much more out of it that I had planned for. We discussed the different sounds we could hear, which instrument was making them, was it a low or high pitch sound, what odd instruments could we see and generally had a little sing song.
At break time I was shocked to come back to my classroom to find that all of my pencil pots had mysteriously gone missing. When the children came back in there was such a buzz about them, "Miss Morris, I'm in a band with Lacey and Elizabeth", "We made up our own song", "My band covered Once I was 7 years old".
At the end of the day we performed our different routines.
