Happy Halloween

I hope you all had a lovely half term. I forgot to add some of the pictures from the week before half term.

Things got spooky at the Halloween disco.

Maths
Last week we were measuring how heavy objects were using a variety of non-standard units. We used balance scales and even our hands to feel which was lighter. Lots of comparing and ordering of objects.

"This one is heavier, it makes my hand drop down more than the other one."

"We made our scales balanced"

English
We had a real mystery on our hands when Pudsey went missing! Dun dun duuuuunnnn....
Luckily Detective Carr and Year One were available to help solve the crime.

So we wrote a letter to Miss Roberts to inform her of the wrong doing that occurred.

"Dear Miss Roberts
First Pudsey was stolen.

 (Clue 1)
Then we fownd a leter.

 (Clue 2)
After we fownd soom fluf on the dor.
 (Clue 3)
Next we fownd a blalai shoow.

 (Clue 4)

Then we fownd a y6 book.
After that we went to year 6.

 (The culprit)

 Finally we fownt Pudsey.

It wosn't Miss Moores fawlt.

From Dtectiv Day."

The children really immersed themselves into the role play, taking notes and hunting for clues. It gave the report topic a real buzz and excitement that they were able to write some very in depth letters which showed their immense understanding.

Black History Month
The children LOVED our learning on Mary Seacole. A topic I thought would be quite dry and above their understanding. Wasn't I pleasantly surprised. I'm sure you've had the song we made up sang on repeat. They retained so much information about her being a nurse in the Crimean war. How she used herbal remedies to cure the sick soldiers and her kindness earned her the nickname "Mother Seacole". Also that she is rated the number one black person in British history.
This is some of the artwork we made for the assembly where we shared what we had learnt about our significant person for Black History Month.
