Jam sandwiches and 10 heads?

English
We've been reading the little red hen all in preparation for writing a sequel, the little red hen 2. To help with our planning we had to make jam sandwiches.

We cut the bread

Spread the jam

Caught you red handed having a sneaky off cut of bread.

Then the best bit eating the sandwich

Art
The children have been learning about the artist David Hockney. They tried to recreate his cubism style.

The children took lots of pictures using the ipads from different angles of each other.

Then they cut the pictures up, I think they turned out wonderfully. Here are some examples.

Science
The bean plants are coming along nicely, it would be nicer if a few more would wake up and pop out of the soil...

So along with our weekly observation of the plants we have been looking at garden plants. Identifying a few flowers and giving responses about them.

RE
In RE we have been learning about Harvest and how to appreciate nature. Sukkot is a feast Jewish people celebrate to be thankful to God for the natural world. We did this by having our own feast.

Maths
In maths we have been making 5 and 10 in different ways. trying to be practical and working mathematically.

Computing
In computing we are working on the basics; turning on the laptop, using a keyboard, using a mouse and logging in. We used some maths games to practice using the left and right click of the track pads on the laptop.

Line Dancing

PE
In PE we have been learning some choreography for a line dancing routine. All members of staff who have been lucky enough to walk through the hall while we have been practicing and performing have been astounded. I'm sure you will agree...

Ella in our class filmed the video. Next week we will try from a different angle, to include more children in the shot.

Welcome 2016-17 Cohort!!!

We've had a full on start to the term. Making sure we have all the basics for learning for this year.

Maths
We have been counting physical objects, Finding one more and one less than a number and have started adding two one-digit numbers.

English
In English we have been looking at stories with repeated and predictable phrases in. Starting off with The Very Hungry Caterpillar and The Little Red Hen. Which has linked very nicely to our Science and PE topics.

Today we acted out the story of The Little Red Hen in small groups. We have some expressive members of the class which gets me very excited for our Christmas Production. Check them out for yourself.

Science
Our bean plants are coming along nicely. Small One has the tallest plant so far standing at 14cm tall, measured by Lacey. We're still waiting on some of the bean plants to make their appearances, but it has become a very exciting experiment to follow over the coming weeks.

PE
In PE we have looked at movement and reacting to the stimulus of music. Moving in different ways, like different insects. The flight of the bumblebee made us move quickly whereas there was some beautiful fluttering of arms whilst listening to a slower piece of classical music.
Next we played out the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, going from a small body shape of an egg to transitioning to a caterpillar and chrysalis then finally a butterfly.
This week we have started learning a line dancing routine with basic actions such as bending knees and clapping in time to the music. Put on achey breaky heart and ask for a performance. I'm really excited for next Tuesday when we can add more moves to the routine.
I'll add some videos of this next week when we've practiced a bit more.

RE
In RE we have been looking at the natural world and went on a nature walk to find objects that aren't man-made. Here are some of the things we found.
