Bonjour classe un!

French Day

We had a fantastique time on French day. The chn had a visit around each of the classrooms where a different French themed activity took place. In Year 1 I turned the room into Carrefour le supermarché. We thought about what ingredients make up meals so that we could make a shopping list in french.

Then after lunch we took part in the crepe flip. Our joint first place flippers were
Keenan and Nathaniel

Computing
In computing we have be learning about how to use a computer, so that later in the year we are whizzes and can apply our computer skills to other units. So far we know some parts of a laptop and a computer, eg. switch, keyboard, track pad/mouse, screen/monitor.
We can use the trackpad to drag and click on things and even double slick :O which is super skillful.
Today we learnt how to open an application, minimize/maximize and  close it. We use our magician words abracadabra as we click the line icon to minimize and then blow a kiss goodbye to close and application.
Next week we will be finding folders and saving documents in them. wish us luck!

Food?
Reception and Nursery made some soup this morning in Mrs Ivory's soup maker. We had a sniff and a look at the different ingredients they used, including carrots, parsnip and swede.

Look at this tiny carrot that Year 1 planted last year.

And a teeny tiny radish.

Afterwards we had a taste test to see if they have any potential as soup chefs in the future.

Here's what we thought:
Ottie - "I tasted carrot. I didn't really like it."
Erin - "It is hot so I blowed on it."
Kye - "I give it a 20 out of 5... no wait a 5 out of 5. I just absolutelly love it. I want more."
Eesah - "I taste carrots. I LOVE carrots."
Kaysie- "I give it a thumbs down."
Keenan - "I've never eaten carrot soup before. Now I like it."
Aaron - "This is actually delicious."

Flower Festival
At St Leonard's church the flower festival starts this weekend. On Monday we will be heading down to the church in the afternoon. We made a display to go up in the church, along the theme of journeys or adventures. Check it out!

SCIENCE WEEK
If you're a bit like this about the science homework here are some links to give you an idea or two or you could go off on your own tangent to answer a question your child wants answered -
  1. How can I make a rain cycle in a bag?
  2. Invent a weather Station
  3. Make a liquid 'potion' in a jar
  4. Contribute to our new Science and Technology news board

For some of the experiments we are doing in class, is it possible for you to contribute a transparent water bottle so we can make a lava lamp/water oil experiment. The children can take these home at the end of the week. If you have any food colouring that would be helpful too, so we can personalise our lava lamps.
