World Book Week (PE Videos updated)

If you want to see pictures from world book day you'll have to read through to find them :)

Science

In science the past couple weeks we have been investigating how different materials react with water. If they would make a good umbrella.

We found that the waterproof materials make good umbrellas. Paper is not a good choice.

We also investigated if objects around the room will float or sink.

We found that heavy objects sunk and light objects sunk -Erin.

If they had a wide flat base they are more likely to float - Toby.
If they have holes in them they will sink - Ethan.

PE

In PE we've been starting to learn the main skills to work towards our gymnastic awards. Parents get your needles and threads out because these kids have got potential.

We know tuck, straddle and pike positions. We've been working on rolls, log roll and forward roll.

Book Swap

The donated books made lots of people happy as they got to take home 2 new books!!! Rather than cracking on with phonics it seemed much more fun to read our new books. The children melted my hearts with how excited they were with them, reading to each other, sharing nicely and being really engrossed in what they were doing. Wonderful to see such a love of reading going on in Year 1.

Bookmarks
We made book marks to hold our place in all of these great books we've been reading this week. We made them using origami techniques. It was quite the relaxing afternoon. The children used their listening skills very well, the results were quite impressive.

Here's a link to make some more at home

World Book Day

As usual Year 1 really showed how committed we are to big school events by putting a real effort into dressing up for world book day. They look great don't they.

The Brainy Scarecrow (Mr Boxer) popped in to treat us with a reading of the Wizard of Oz, complete with role play of Dorothy (Summer) wishing to go back to Kansas.

Then to top the day off, Year five came to visit us with pre-planned, differentiated guided reading activities for all the children to complete. They read together and answered questions about the book they read.
