Just a reminder that the projects are due in 3 weeks
We will be presenting the projects to each other, so it may be a good idea to prepare your child with something to say. Such as;
What have they have made for their project?
How did they make it?
What did they see?
Why is recycling a good idea?
What materials did they use for their collage?
Just a 5 minute of talking time is all that is needed as I will be interested if they can speak clearly and confidently about something they have made. As well as are they able to maintain attention and participate actively in discussions for other people's presentations and can they ask relevant questions (which I will model).
Here is the list of ideas I made at the beginning of the term. Don't feel like you have to do everything. I enjoyed hearing about all the great ideas you've had a parents evening and I'm really looking to see what you've come up with.
Year 1 Homework project – The Natural World
Here is a list of suggested things your child could
include as part of the homework project about materials. It is by no means
exhaustive and your child is invited to come up with their own ideas on
the theme for things they could add – there are no wrong answers!
·
Go on a nature walk and draw/photograph/collect
different things you see.
®
Write a list of the things collected.
®
Draw a labelled diagram
®
Write a sentence or paragraph about the favourite
thing you’ve found.
®
Draw a map of the area where you completed your
nature walk.
·
Help sort out the recycling bins at home. Explore
or research how recycling helps the natural world.
®
Make a poster showing what we can or can’t recycle
at home.
®
Make a structure using recycled materials from your
bins.
·
Visit the Natural History Museum in London or Tring
– there are lots of onsite games and quizzes children can complete at both
venues.
·
Create or build an island which contains human and
physical aspects (which we will be studying this is Geography in the first half
term)
·
Experiment with the needs of plants, testing
different environments and recording their progress
®
Measure the height on a weekly basis, measure how
much water you give the plants (We will be looking a length in Maths)
®
Does sunlight, temperature or amount of soil affect
the plant in anyway?
·
Collect some leaves/conkers/natural items that have
fallen from the trees and make a collage or picture.
® Could you use any of the items collected to make a
musical instrument/shaker?
·
Write a story or draw a comic strip about animals
or creatures in a natural setting.
·
Make up a dance or song about your favourite
animals, plants, rocks or minerals.
The year 1 homework project is due to be handed
in to Miss Morris during the week commencing 21st November.
