The children have been learning and performing poetry. They have made up their own actions, spoken with clear voices and worked well in a group.
The children took it in turns to video each other using Tuff Cams.
There children have been learning about position and direction in a variety of ways.
In PE they practised positional langauge.
For dirction the children linked maths with computing and used the beebots. They had to programme the beebots by giving directions. These included forwards, backwards, left turn and right turn.
The beebots didn't always go in the direction intended but it was a very enjoyable activity.
On Monday we were visited by the school nurses, who told us about the importance of hand washing.
The children put some glitter bugs on their hands. Then they washed the glitter bugs off and looked under a special machine which showed up the areas of their hands that they didn't wash properly. It showed up that the children need to take particular attention to washing around their nails and the back of their hands.
Today we looked at Scotland as part of our topic on the United Kingdom. We learnt that Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland. We found out about Edinburgh castle and Loch Ness. Obviously there was great interest in the story of the Loch Ness Monser!
We took the opportunity to try some shortbread, which is a well known food from Scotland.
Miss Roberts' family originate from Cyprus so she spoke to the children about Greek food and explained how meal times is a time when all the family spend time together.
The children were fortunate to try some halloumi, which is a type of cheese. It was delicious!
When you are in school do have a look at Year 1's display, which is situated outside of the Year 1 classroom. You will be able to have a closer look at the children's peg dolls. There are also some photos of our school trip to the Abbey, where we attended a couple of workshops on the Victorians.
