Reading and Performance Poetry

I am delighted with the progress in reading and the enthusiasm that has developed among the children to talk about books.
Over the past couple of weeks we have been celebrating the children's achievements by giving them the opportunity to read a book or part of a book to the class.

Here are a few pictures of the children reading to the  class.

The children performed their poem 'TheWiggly Earthworm' to the school. They performed it well and enjoyed themselves. Well done everyone for  learning the poem and joining in.

Reading
It is lovely to see how the children's reading ability has improved over the year. Today we had a story read to us by one of the children.

Max you were amazing!

Art

Following on from our work on stories from different cultures, where we looked at books set in Africa, the children painted an elephant.

First the children practised drawing an elephant in their art books.

Then the children mixed black and white paint to make grey.

After they mixed their grey paint they painted their elephant.

Didn't we end up with some lovely pieces of art!

Today we welcomed a visitor who talked to us about moths and caterpillars. The children had the opportunity to have a moth rest on them. The children were all very keen to participate.

Some of the moths weren't quite so well behaved as they flew up to the ceiling in the school hall!
Adults participated too! Well done Miss Roberts!

PE

The children have been working on their athletic skills this half term. This week they were learning to throw the javelin. They were competing again Year 2 so that was an incentive to do well! They definitely improved their throws as the lesson progressed.
